Hey there home cooks and baking enthusiasts! As you know, we here at Mighty Cooks are on the lookout for cooking tips and products that we think will make the kitchen (and cooking) more approachable for everyone. I think that Rubbermaid DuraLite Bakeware fits that bill perfectly. Lets jump right into why I think DuraLite Bakeware is a great product will be a great addition to your home kitchen. Rubbermaid Makes Bakeware?! Right? I was a little shocked too when I found this product last year. If you have never heard of Rubbermaid, (I do have to ask how? I need to know) they are famous for their storage containers, their plastic storage containers. Not silicone, plastic. So not exactly oven friendly. The description on the Rubbermaid product page reads: “Made from premium glass designed for high heat tolerance and durability, Rubbermaid DuraLite Bakeware delivers superior baking and cooking performance.” I personally love Rubbermaid's products. I have everything from trash cans to storage containers made by Rubbermaid in my home, and I use Rubbermaid's commercial containers in my restaurant. The containers have all proven to be durable, so I felt (and still feel) confident in the quality of the DuraLite Bakeware. What Makes Rubbermaid DuraLite Bakeware Different? The premium, high performance glass makes the Rubbermaid DuraLite Bakeware heat resistant up to 550 degrees F, and safe for storage in both the fridge or freezer. The DuraLite Bakeware is also microwave and dishwasher safe, meaning clean up is a breeze and you can reheat your leftovers right in the baking dish, bonus in my book. The DuraLite Bakeware is lighter than any other glass or ceramic bake ware I have used that boasts similar durability, which is great for casseroles we love here in the Midwest. I will put a caveat here: you will want to let the cold DuraLite Bakeware slowly come up to temperature before putting them in the over or microwave. It is still glass after all. Pros Ultra lightweight- They are far lighter than any other glass or ceramic bake ware you can find on the market. Durable- DuraLite Bakeware is made from high quality glass that is resistant to breaks and chips. Elegant Design- The DuraLite Bakeware is made from a white glass with a design that looks great when cooking and serving. Heating to Serving to Storage- The DuraLite Bakeware can go right from the oven to your table, and then into the fridge to store your left overs. Space-Saving- The DuraLite Bakeware is great for small spaces, they can be nested, making kitchen organization and storage in small kitchens easy. Safe- DuraLite Bakeware are BPA- free, plus they are microwave, freezer, and dishwasher safe. High Heat Capable- DuraLite Bakeware are safe to 550F, meaning you can use them in your broiler, which is amazing for a glass baking dish. Cons Lids don't fit well- It's fantastic that these baking dishes come with lids, unfortunately that elegant design means the lids don't seal tight, though they do lock down. Not non-stick- Like any glass or ceramic (at least that I have encountered) these are also not non-stick. You will need to use cooking spray or some type of oil Breakable- While the DuraLite Bakeware is very durable, it's still glass. It can break dropped, banged around too much, or if there is a rapid temperature change from very cold or hot. Clean-up- If you don't have a dishwasher the baking dishes can be hard to clean. Make sure to use enough cooking spray or oil, so food doesn't stick. In my experience this is common with glass bake ware.
